Gathering MayoNorthMayo North Gathering Festival 1st August – 9th August 2013

The action packed Mayo North Gathering Festival takes places in Ballina and several other towns and villages in the wider North Mayo area from 1st-9th August.  

The Festival incorporates the Manchester-Mayo Gathering, the Pearse St (Ballina) Reunion, Siamsa Sráide (Swinford), Foxford Gathering, Bonniconlon Show and numerous other Gathering events throughout the area with something to suit ALL tastes.  A total of more than 100 individual events and several “All Week” activities and attractions make this the Gathering to beat ALL Gatherings!

The Festival will provide a wide range of entertainment for returning emigrants, visitors and locals in Mayo North’s towns and villages, enjoying this colossal Gathering event.

The programme includes tours, historic walks, talks, golf tournaments, fishing, sport events, concerts, traditional music and dancing, novelty events, children’s events, street entertainment, pub entertainment and much more.  

As well as in Ballina, Gathering events are also taking place in Attymass, Foxford, Straide, Swinford (Siamsa Sráide), Lahardane, Crossmolinas’ Enniscoe House, Killala, Ballycastle & Belderg, Maygownagh and of course, a featured event will be the famous Bonniconlon Show, on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th August.

 

During the nine day festival, visitors will be spoiled for choice with a very wide and varied programme spread over Mayo North locations. These include the Pearse St (Ballina) Reunion (open to all), Bonnifinglas Sports Day, Sharon Shannon in Swinford Parish Church, ”Shorelines” by Atlantic Productions and Manchester-Mayo Gala Concerts in Ballina Arts Centre, the Healyfest in Belderrig, an eviction pageant in Straide, the Admiral Show in Foxford, a visit to the Titanic Park in Lahardane, a day of Forage and Feasting along the Killala shoreline, a day of tracing your roots, dance classes and dinning in Enniscoe House, and a children’s fancy dress event in Moygownagh.  

These are just a small sample of the events occurring throughout the nine days, with over 100 individual events taking place throughout the Mayo North region.

The nine day Gathering extravaganza will conclude with a very special Gathering event hosted at the Downhill House Hotel, and will feature a Gathering Gala Dinner on Friday 9th August, with very special guest former President of Ireland, current UN Special Envoy and Ballina native; Mary Robinson, as special guest and keynote speaker.  Tickets for this very special Gathering event (Price €40 per ticket) are on sale in Ballina Tourist Office, Pearse St (+353 (0) 96 72800)  email: ballinatouristoffice@gmail.com and book your tickets.

As well as specific individual events running each day, the renowned Jackie Clarke Collection in Ballina (Free admission, Open Tues-Sat 10am-5pm) will host a special Gathering Exhibition.  Other all week attractions include Free admission to Ballinglen Arts Centre (500 works of Art on view), Golf Competitions and reduced green fees in Ballina Golf Club, and fishing at reduced rates on several River Moy beats (state licence required).

Manchester Mayo Gathering 2013Manchester & Leeds

Mayo North Gathering hopes to strengthen links with returning emigrants from Manchester and Leeds where local people traditionally emigrated.

Welcoming Mayo North’s twinned cities of Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, Craigavon, Co Armagh and Athis Mons, France.

 

 

 

Events Guide Addition and Changes-Please note the following are in relation to Attymass Gathering Events

Friday 2nd August, Additional Event – 4pm, Historical Trail (5miles approx). Free guided tour of Heritage Sites including Kildermott Abbey, Starts at Fr.Peytin Centre.

Wednesday 7th August, Change to Schedule – ALL Day; Free Fishing on Padden’s and Wood Pool on River Moy (State licence required). Parking available.  12 Noon-3pm; Free Tours of Fr.Peyton Centre and Archives.  Scheduled Pool Competition in the Sionnach Rua Pub has been cancelled.
