Well established as a foodie destination, “The Salmon Capital of Ireland” looks set to bolster its reputation for quality and variety with the towns first Food Fleadh, which will take place in the military quarter of the market square on Saturday the 23rd of August. Food Fleadh Ballina will showcase the best that Mayo has to offer with locally produced food, cookery demonstrations, tastings, farmers markets, a range of live music and fun children’s activities.
An array of award winning chefs will perform cookery demonstrations to showcase the variety and quality of restaurants in the area. Included are Phillippe Farineau (Mount Falcon Hotel), Gerry Luskin (Ballina Manor Hotel), Marjorie Nolan (Brigown cookery school), Ronan Fox (Hotel Ballina) and Harish Rangroo (Bisini) and Darren Ruane (Dillons Restaurant) who will provide visitors with a full feast for the senses and are raring to go for the big day.
A family-friendly event, the Food Fleadh will have a selection of activities to keep the kids happy and entertained with the Kids Zone marquee set to be bustling with arts and crafts, cup-cake decoration, mini-Zumba, hula hooping, face-painting, skipping ropes and more.
The main stage will see the award winning Bofield céilíi band as well as the lively Crooked Jacks entertain visitors with a variety of musical entertainment while Atlantic Rhythm Productions and The Nolan and Bailey School of Dance will provide an exhibition of Irish dancing and a showcase of local talent.
The event promises to be a great day for foodies and musical enthusiasts alike with surprises and competitions still in store.
