Frosty Salmon Festival in Ballina this Christmas
7th to the 24th of December
The announcement of the Frosty Salmon Festival programme has been greeted with excitement in Ballina this week.
The Festival which is programmed to run from the 7th to the 24th of December will ensure that the North Mayo Capital is the best place to capture the Christmas spirit this year.
The Frosty Salmon Festival has many seasonal highlights from Moy on Ice to the Mistletoe Markets and an amazing array of other events.
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus along with his happy helpful elves is coming to Ballina on Saturday December 7th to see all the boys and girls from Ballina and the surrounding area. Santa Grotto will be based in Christmas Market Square formally known as Rabbette Car parks. Santa Grotto will be open every weekend from the December 7th until Christmas Eve where there will be a big send off for Santa Claus before his makes his journey around the world.

Moy on Ice 7-31 December
Moy on Ice is a state of the art Ice rink and will be open daily from December 7th until December 31st. The Ice rink which is the largest ever to be located in Ballina will host a range of other unique festive performances and events over the duration of the festival. This includes Santa’s Grotto with Santa and his helpful elves making Ballina their Headquarters until December 24th.

Christmas in Pearse Street Reunion 8 December
After the huge success of last August event, the Pearse Street Reunion Committee are finishing the year of the Gathering off with free live music event, free face painting and craft for the kids and street fayre on December 8th, with a couple of surprise guest. All activities will take place at the Jackie Clarke Museum Garden and on Walsh Street.
Mistletoe Market 14, 15, 21 & 22 December
The market is a European style Christmas market which will bring Ballina back to its historic market town origins and will boast a range of local, traditional crafts and artisan foods. Some of our budding entrepreneurs from the Student Enterprise Awards programme from different Secondary Schools in Co. Mayo will be selling their products at the market too. The markets will take place on the 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd of December.
Christmas Grinch Hunt 12 December
The Grinch was spotted by local shopkeepers recently it needs to be caught and deported from the Town before he has a chance to ruin Christmas in Ballina. A crack team of Grinch hunters have joined forces to capture the Grinch. They need local children to help to capture the Grinch because the team have figured out that he isn’t afraid of children and is attracted to red clothes. The Grinch hunter team will meet outside the Moy on Ice rink based in the Christmas Quarter formally known as Rabbette’s Car Park at 7.00pm sharp on Thursday December 12th. Don’t forget to wear something red.
Kids Disco on Ice 24 December
Come along to a children disco at Moy on Ice Rink in aid of Kilmoremoy Ladies GAA development starting at 12pm until 2pm. Why not stay a little bit later and wave the big man himself Santa Claus off on his around the world trip.
Santa and his Elves 24 December
The festival will culminate in a dramatic send-off of Santa and the Elves on Christmas Eve from Market Square. Santa will be airlifted by Helicopter from Ballina to meet his reindeer who are currently grazing on top of Nephin Mór Mountain. All Children are asked to be in the Market Square for 2pm to wish Santa well on his long day of delivering presents around the world.
Concerts, carol singing & street performances
The festival also boasts a host of concerts; carol singing from local National Schools and choirs, street performances at various venues and late night shopping for those last minute gifts.
The Frosty Salmon Festival is not to be missed and one that every family will want to experience.
